Turkish Rugs

Turkish Rugs and Carpets are like a beautiful poetry, they are opulent work of art with each design with a deeper meaning. Whether hand knotted or flat woven, they are amongst the most recognized and established hand crafted work world over. Turkish Carpets are indispensable choice for the Kings and the Palaces, Royalty and Connoisseurs of beauty and craftsmanship.

They totally transform the spaces into totally magnificence and royalty with their rich aura, color, texture, patterns and motifs. These carpets are a great investment art pieces for future. Turkish Rugs, also known as Anatolian Rugs and carpets are made in vast array of distinct styles originating from various regions in Anatolia. The styles can be distinguished in the use of the materials, weaving and construction method, motifs & patterns, geography & cultural identity, sizes and intended use. The most important distinguishing feature of the motifs employed in Anatolian carpets is the "symbolization" imposed by the traditional weaving techniques.

The language of the motifs is the language of any-one who can understand. These majestic pieces of art derive their names from the localities in which they are produced, tribal groups they are associated with, as well as from the techniques of their manufacture, the characteristic patterns of their ornamentation, the layout of the design and the intention of their use. One very interesting fact about Turkish Carpets is they are the woven expressions of the weaver who are generally women. It is generally known that in traditional households, women and girls take up carpet and kilim weaving as a hobby and means to livelihood.

Turkish Rugs and flat weaves are made from five major materials: sheep wool, goat hair, silk, floss silk and cotton. Most of the Turkish carpets are made of silk and hence quite steeply priced. It is widely understood that the rugs that are made from natural materials are more durable than synthetic materials.  Also, authentic carpets are made from natural dyes extracted from vegetables, roots, flowers and even insects; this also increases the value of a rug value. However, one must remember that the natural dyes mellow over time.

You would be glad to know a distinct fact that, Turkish carpets are known for their complex knots per square meter, more knots a rug commands, superior will be its design and weavings. The number of knots per square inch of the rug has a direct impact on the quality and value of the rug. You may want to determine whether the rug was machine or hand-knotted. You can certainly ask the carpet dealer, but just to be certain, turn the rug over and look at the weaving pattern and knots on the underside.  The more knots per square inch, the more expensive the rug.
