Indian Rugs and Carpets

Carpet weaving in India was introduced far back in the eleventh century with the coming of the Muslim conquerors by the Ghazvavids and Ghauris from the West. Under the Mughal rule, Indian craftsmanship adopted Persian designs and techniques.

Carpets that were woven in Punjab made use of motifs and decorative styles that were found in the Mughal architecture. Indian rugs originated from this era with a touch of Persian designs. Indian rugs and carpets are widely popular all over the world.
