Carpet Patchwork rugs are created from pieces of miscellaneous 40 – 80 years old hand-woven weavings. A new generation of artists in Istanbul utilize these semi-antique weavings after they have them cleaned and some of them dyed to their specifications to create a new art form. The weavings are cut into squares and other basic geometric forms and assembled in a pattern, backed with two layers of fabric to reinforce, sewn together and ironed.
